Welcome to the Ogallala Volunteer Fire Department!

Since 1913, we have proudly served the citizens and visitors of Ogallala, Keith County and Lake McConaughy.

From the Chief

Welcome to the new web site of the Ogallala Volunteer Fire Department. Our Fire department has served our community for nearly 99 years and in March of 2013 we will celebrate 100 years of organized service to Nebraska’s Cowboy Capital.

On an annual basis we run between 500 and 600 runs. In 2011, we responded to 481 incidents with 9 structure fires and 379 EMS-related calls. Our apparatus includes two ambulances, two engine companies, a ladder truck, heavy rescue, a water tender, and three wildland fire units.

The firefighters in Ogallala are well trained and are prepared to respond to many types of emergencies. We have two main rail lines that run through the Ogallala Rural Fire District and the City of Ogallala. Nebraska’s largest lake, Lake McConaughy is located in the middle of the fire district, Interstate 80 also runs through our District and Nebraska’s sand hills are just north of Ogallala.

While driving through our area we encourage you to stop in and say "Hello." You will find a pleasant community that is rich in hospitality, service, history of the old west and a bright future. All trails do lead to Ogallala, Nebraska.
